Departing on Summer Furlough

Banners reading "The Citadel: Leadership Starts Here" hang outside a building with arched windows.

Time is flying by!  I have heard many folks asking how does departing on Summer Furlough work?  I have put together a brief info sheet that discusses the differences in cadets' responsibilities based on their "C Status" (page 6).  You can find this sheet by clicking here or the following link:

Activities supporting the Commencement Ceremonies (SCCC and Graduate College) and preparing the barracks for departure are the two major efforts that will impact when a cadet may leave.

The info sheet breaks down cadets into the following categories:

1) Graduating Cadets participating in Commencement (to include those completing their requirements this summer).  It further breaks them down into those -
     - taking Graduation Leave
     - not taking Graduation Leave

2) Graduating Cadets who are not participating in Commencement.

3) Non-Essential C2/C3 Cadets  - those for the purpose of this effort are not required for the Commencement Ceremonies or preparation of the barracks for summer furlough.

4) Mission Essential Cadets - mainly C1 cadets and those designated members of the cadet chain of command supporting Commencement or preparation of the barracks.

The Commandant will issue an Operations Order (OPORD) in April.  Although the info sheet is good enough for you to make plans, the official policy will be contained in the Commandant's OPORD.
