Job and Internship Fair

Posted about 3 years ago  in Parent & Family News.

The Career Center is excited for all cadets to participate in next week's Career and Internship Fair.  This is something we hope you will ask your cadet about with a nudge to take advantage of it.

Looking at the information below, it is clear that Internships put cadets in a better position to receive a job offer:

  • More than half of all graduating seniors who applied for a full-time job (53.2%) received at least one job offer. Within this group, 57.5% of students who had an internship and 43.7% of graduating seniors who did not have an internship received a job offer.” - NACE 2019 Survey
  • 69% of jobs are obtained through referrals or by a contact – U.S. Department of Labor
  • 66% of employers state that a strong interview and relevant work experience are the most important factors in their hiring decisions - NACE 2019 Survey

What does an Internship do for your cadet?

- Exposes them to the real world
- Provides a platform for them to establish critical networking connections
- Helps them learn more about themselves
- Equips them with more than just technical skills
- Allows them to gain a competitive edge

81.1% of graduates say that working as an intern has helped them significantly improve their career prospects - State of Millennial Hiring Report

Here are two events next week they need to take advantage of:

1) "Ready, Set, Hire"  - prep event for the Job and Internship Fair:

When: Monday, February 21st
Where: Daniel Library, first floor

There will be five stations:

  • Resume and Cover Letter
  • LinkedIn Profile
  • Elevator Pitch
  • Professional Interactions
  • LinkedIn Headshot station

2) Job and Internship Fair

When 1-4PM Wednesday February 23rd
Where: Buyer Hall Auditorium- over 50 companies coming with hopes of hiring a cadet!

This is a great opportunity for all cadets to update their resumes and pitches as well as gain experience speaking to employers.

                                                                   . . . . . .

If your cadet is planning to enter the military after graduation, we recommend that you encourage them to have a backup plan in case there is an unexpected change in plans.  Also, they may have a wait before starting their basic courses, an internship is a great use of their time to gain experience and build relationships in the career field they plan to practice in after serving in the military.
