Dear Citadel Parents,
As you have attended Citadel events over the years, you have undoubtedly seen a number of campus photographers capturing important moments. Many of these photos are uploaded to a commercial photo sharing site – Photoshelter – where users can search for photos and download copies. In the interest of further sharing these great images with you, we have implemented a software change that will allow you to more easily find pictures of your cadet in our photo archives using facial recognition technology.
In order to search for your cadet, please go to our photo site: citadel.edu/photo-store. Find the search bar in the top left of the screen and type in your cadet’s name and click the enter button on your computer. Do not click on the AI search button as that is different feature. You will see pictures in which the archive has detected the face of your cadet. Please keep in mind that the search results are all of the pictures in which your cadet appears whether or not that are the main subject of the picture. They may simply be in the background (common in parade photos). There may be some instances where the wrong cadet is identified, though in our testing so far, the facial recognition has been quite accurate. Also please be mindful that if you don’t yet find many pictures, we are continuously adding images to the archive so check back after major events. If you are wondering how this works, we uploaded all of the portrait photos taken at the beginning of the school year, and as those are tagged with the cadet’s name, they are used to train the AI.
At the same time that we added this feature, we removed the cost to download social media quality images from the site. This should allow all families to download more photos of their cadets and share them with others. If you would like to order paper copies of photos, you can still do that on the Photoshelter site for a cost that covers the expense of printing and shipping images.
We hope you find this a nice way to see pictures of your cadet and some of the activities in which they have been involved. Photos of the Recognition Day and Corps Day events of last week are included in the latest batch of uploaded photos.
V/r,
The Citadel Photo Team
